omg that is unfortunate. What type of culture and city do you live in? Is it very conservative and religious? 
Don't harass him if that is the type of city you live in, there could be hate crimes in the area too.

Gay men's object of envy (and fascination and attraction etc.) are not really women, but rather other men, or more accurately: masculinity.
It's probably one of the major differences between male-to-male attraction and a heterosexual one. There's a lot of envy (in this case to be distinguished from jealousy) going on.
This is a generalization, but it's true nevertheless.

That is very very true. A lot of envy with gay men. It is immature and unhelpful to a productive life if you ask me.
