The association is important, too, at least when it's known at the time... While I love the names Gia, Nia, Mia, Lia, I know that Gia will always be associated with Gia Carangi... While she was gorgeous, she was also a druggie.

If I had a son, the name Wolfgang has always appealed to me. For a girl, either Lucy, Isabella (so she can get into the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum for free) or Katherine (so I can nickname her Kat).

I don't like the name Chanel, just as I think Tiffany is also as pretentious. With Jordan, I think of Jordan almonds. lol

Names that should not be on this list:
Esther- too old fashioned
Wolfgang- We are not naming hairy wolf like child molesters are we?
Lucy- reminds me of Lucy Liu & her odd shaped eyes. Not a fan!
Margot- maggots anyone?
Jen- too plain just like Mary

Yet, ironically, "Jen/ Jenny/ Jennifer" has been mentioned probably more than any other name on this thread as a "sexy" name, especially by men.

"Margot" is pronounced "Margo" (silent "t"), so I doubt it would be much associated with maggots; most associations are based on how a name sounds, not how it's spelled.
You could always spell it phonologically ("Margo") or give it a frenchy twist ("Margeaux") if the "t" on the end bothers you that much.
The common spelling of this name, Margot, does not remind me so much of maggots as it does of sorbet (which also has a silent "t"). And I like sorbet, so it's a pleasant association.

Ok...lol i was actually pronouncing the "t" for Margot and yes associating it with sorbert helps!

As for Jen, I come from a white conservative family where every one & their mum is a Jen/Jenny so I'm so over that name!

Thats why for my kids I want to go the "Phoenix", "Theo" route. Still white names but no so, so boring!

This list I like! Expect Layla. Sounds Arabic/Muslim to me? Or too babish even...a grown 50yr old with vericose veins called Layla...not cute!

Julia is another on my list, but that's probably only do to my associating it with Julia Stiles.
