That IS the straight answer. If you don't know something about them, then you don't know it. I don't like tattoos. If she's got a tattoo in an intimate place, I'm not going to know about it until she's naked in front of me, am I? And that could take several weeks. So obviously, I could possibly date someone with a tattoo, even though I wouldn't WANT to.

I think if the person you're married to is committing robberies, there's way, way more going on than just someone occasionally stealing from others.

Yes, I do see the problem. You would rather dance around the issue than give a straight answer to a simple question. What fascinates me is why that is.
