There was a very funny line on a TV recently that I think says it pretty well.
One of the characters had not had sex in a long time, so did not particularly miss it. Then she had sex and was horny all the time. Her friend said, "Now, you woke it up, so you have to feed it."
My experience is that either the "pilot light" is on, or off, depending upon your hormones. After a certain age, the pilot is usually off. To me, sex is like a banquet. I remember how delicious the food is, but I still don't feel like eating any.
Albeit, difficult, I'm sure I will survive, and I'm not about to commit suicide if I never get it again.
