I agree, it is creepy. I couldn't imagine doing something like that.

I'm glad I'm a guy, less stuff to worry about. I really feel for the single ladies with kids. You guys really need to be on the look out for creepy dudes.

Make sure if you do, and you download it to your computer for any reason that you make sure when your computer is dead or trashed you actually drive a large nail through the hard drive. Even if you delete all the info of a hard drive the information can still be recovered by someone who know what they are doing. The only way to destroy a hard drive is like I said, drive a large nail through the center of it. Don't ever put a used computer out to be thrown away, or give it to a freind. The hard drive will always have your data on it. Just a tip for those sexy fun people out there that don't know much about computers!!!

And even if you do that, the FBI still has ways of retrieving any info, no matter how fragmented it may be, off of that "destroyed" hard drive. Just a thought.

Wow you all must be some important people, worrying about thieves stealing videotapes and the FBI retrieving info. I was worried my mom might somehow see it when she was looking for something to tape her soaps on.

Yeah, I think I'm pretty important. People actually PAY me to look at all the angles.

It's fun. Same thing with getting naughty in public - it's fun. Loosen up!

I'm loose - but not when it comes to something that could potentially destroy my family, my career or my life. I just don't take chances like these, and I don't understand why anyone else would either.

I don't see how it would unless you make a tape, put a big label on it that say "TWINKLE TOES HAVING HOT FILTHY FREAKY SEX" and then leave it on the table at Starbucks. I have never believed any of these celeb stories about racy pics or videos being stolen - who breaks in a house, especially the house of someone wealthy with expensive stuff to steal, and then takes the time to go through the family videos? It makes it even harder to believe when they become even more famous from those "stolen" pics and videos.

If there's enough money in it people will do just about anything. Especially if you're being paid next to squat in a house that makes 8 figures in a year or even more with a high profile.

That I believe.

The FBI, seriously though? They don't give a sh*t what you have on tape or anything else so long as they don't suspect it's you whipping the underage houseboy in a leather outfit.

There's a pretty big difference between being safe and being paranoid. The latter qualifies as paranoid. There are plenty of freeware mini-utilities around to overwrite each sector on a hard drive that will effectively destroy any normal methods of retrieval or recovery.

This does not cover flash based Solid State Disks (SSD) however, as they employ writing to disk using a method called "wear leveling". Meaning the actual disk controller on the SSD controls how, when, and how often each section of it gets written or overwritten on it, so it becomes a bit more detrimental to even bother as you'd have to go over it more than a few times to ensure you've overwritten the whole shebang. Then of course each section of it has a limited lifespan, the controller detects when parts go bad, removes them from the writing pool, effectively keeping the data on those sectors forever.

There are now finally some mainstream companies putting 256bit encryption on the disk controller itself finally for newer hard drives. Mainly to fill the business need, although I'm betting the FBI and NSA are having kittens about it.

Frankly with identity theft and the like I don't get why people aren't in the loop with this stuff more anyhow. The usage of disk encryption should be standard on any computer that has any truly personal information on it. Finances, etc..

And I'd be a hell of a lot more worried about that (unless high profile) than some pimply 16yr old buying my old computer and getting me and the misses doing some moaning, playing hide the sausage.

It really isn't that difficult to do, and plenty of resources for it. The easiest and most realiable of which I've noted is the freeware application Truecrypt.
