Whenever a man brags about cooking, doing his own laundry, vacuuming, scrubbing toilets and helping with chores -- it's merely another manifestation of the male privilege. Since, think about it: could you imagine a woman bragging about it? I sure can't. Women are expected to do these things. This is not to say that all women do them, but those that do won't have a cause to brag about it -- there is no acknowledgment or recognition involved.
Not sure what traveling or participating in a sport overseas has anything to do with having a girlfriend though. It's sort of like saying: "Since I like gourmet food, I'm not interested in wine."
Not bragging at all, just stating it matter of fact that there is no need for me to have a live in girlfriend just for the sake of having one around.
What has happend to men? What happend to guys protecting their family, being the backbone of the family and such. Guys like Jon, from Kate & Jon or the ones you see on 'wife swap' or 'Super Nanny' are becoming way too common. There seems to be less and less of our Grandfathers' type of guy, where his hands were hard when needed, and caring when needed?
Where is John Wayne? Where have all the cowboys gone?

That's just it, wanneroo -- for a man to "point out" (if you wish) that he does his own laundry and scrubs his own toilets is promoting the traditional function of a woman as a laundress and janitor. To make it short, you are saying you don't need a girlfriend because you don't need a house servant -- which indicates that you adhere to the traditional perception of a woman as a house servant by default. A man's traditional role, on the other hand, is not to do anyone else's laundry or clean up anyone else's domestic messes -- and so for a woman to state that she doesn't need a man because she launders her own socks would be nonsense. That is why a man's statement informing the public that he does his own laundry, etc. is an expression of male privilege.
I didn't read through all of the posts, but in defense of men (I'm a woman) I have seen the 21st century woman totally emasculate her man. When you have a woman taking control of every aspect of the "partnership" and harping on him in front of the friends, kids and family then why would a man want to pitch in....it's never good enough or if it's not done her way - why do it?
The woman has become the man. I'm guilty and learned a very tough lesson because of it. Also, if second chances came around - I would forget the career, focus on the hubby & kids...there is no perfect balance.
In reference to Jon & Kate - give him back his kahonies.

Yes, one can't be a master unless someone plays the slave.

Well whatever. I don't think that deeply about it, nor do I wish to think that deeply about it nor do I really care that much about it.
