Just because Laura "calls it like SHE SEES it" doesn't make it any better advice. Like we just got done saying, she isn't perfect and neither should we assume are her points views on things. For example if I called up Dr. Laura and asked her to give me advice on gay issues, she would probably flip out and announce how she views it amoral and unethical behaviors. Do you really think her advice is going to help me?
Competent psychology and therapy isn't about "calling it like YOU SEE IT" either. If so we'd all be sex maniacs considering Freud had previously evaluated all of our "problems" Get it now.

Just like one poster said, "people call her, not the other way around". A lot of people in society don't like therapists like her that "tell it the way they see it". I happen to like it! I really like how she handles couples living together without any kind of marriage plans......don't believe in it myself, but did live with my (now) wife before marriage. BUT, she had an engagement ring on the whole time we lived together and one year after moving in with her, we were married. She thinks very highly of children, but live together and have small children living with you! I like that also! Kids learn from how they are brought up!
Dr. Laura........"you rock lady!!" And this is coming from a 60 yr old man who knows about life!!

I don't know a lot about her, I always felt she seemed overly harsh so I stopped reading her books, only had 1 to begin with. I like (different category) Judge Judy, other people say she's harsh, I think she's impatient at times but good.

Dr. Laura has screeners when people call in. They get a lot of info on them and Dr. Laura is reading from the notes. That is why she knows so much about a person, she can't really read minds. LOL
Wasn't her mother murdered? Dr. Laura always said she was hard to get along with and I guess someone agreed to the extent of killing her. Sad.
She says she is not dong therapy online so I guess that is why she can rake people over the coals. In real therapy you don't do that. The person will not come back. LOL

Sounds a lot like Adolf Hitler! Remove the intelligent and she's hardly typical of the people I associate with. Especially the ones I LIKE to associate with.

I don't like people like that either although I've met many individuals that are similar to her.

I suppose everyone occasionally expresses a view I agree with but that doesnt' mean anything. She seems all over the map depending. Personally I can't stand her
My sister used to listen to her and swore she could tell when she was on her period because thats when she was totally psycho.

Must a been a loong time ago as she's getting a little long in the tooth for periods.
I was listening to her today, thinking about this thread that I posted, she actually had some decent advice today, still a little snarky in her delivery though. She said something that she could have said the same way, a little nicer, but no, she took the slightly snotty route.

I've listened to Dr. Laura on and off for the last 19 years. She has a lot of good advice for some very screwed up people, and if you listen to her enough, you'll realize that she preaches prevention above everything else! Prevent unwanted pregnancies, prevent dragging out a "going nowhere" relationship for ten years, etc. I like what she says about how to make a marriage work, such as "be your husband's girlfriend". What is wrong with that kind of advice? Also, most of us would like to have been raised by a stay at home parent, right? Again, what's the problem? I think she deals with most callers very well; even when they interrupt her, she holds on to her sense of humor. What she does every day is not easy; she just makes it look that way.
