I remember the shifting cables or whatever they were called were always failing in those cars. So many things went wrong with those engines, plus there were always engine fires. I'm sure the mechanics at the time were RICH (I knew they were busy).

Those were the days. Baja bugs are good for the beach. But not for everyday commuting.

Wow, i'm sorry you were hurt...

They had clutch cables & accelerator cables.........

I saw some fires started if they didn't have air cleaners on the carbs...

Yes, this was a street legal Bug. It had one of those bee stinger pipes that stuck in the air from the back of the engine. I wonder if they would be legal today... It was the 80's...

Thanks. It was scary - no blood for me, though one of my ex-husband's friend's legs actually popped out the back window (black and blue). We weren't high or drunk. Just one of the bad things about those cars.

Yes, it was the clutch cable! So many clutch cables! It needed clutch cables like a person needed to change their underwear!

Um...sure, it was...yeah... Why? Just kidding. Yes, it was street-legal. I wasn't offroading or anything. I was young and it was just a cheap, used car and it was a pretty color.

Default Forum Rant

Since I am a work-from-home-dad, I told some of my friends that I often have this site open in a window in my computer throughout the day and they were shocked that I am a "internet chat room person" because they say I dont fit the "profile". I asked "what exactly IS the profile?". I must admit, that based on what Ive seen here, they pretty much have it down. They said a typical profile is:

Person who is fat
Person who is either very young or old
Someone who is lonely and looking for "company"
Someone who is jaded on relationships
Someone with no life in the "real world"

I know not everyone who hangs out here are like this, but there really are many here who seem to fit this bill. Sometimes, I'll go over and peruse the Music forum and Movies forum and realize that I have NOTHING in common with many of those people who post there. The music folks all seem to be stuck in the 60s, the movie people, especially the ones in the "post the funniest movie scene" thread all seem to think the funniest scenes in movies are scenes that I find not hilarious in the least, and are from movies that Ive never heard of or have no desire to EVER see. And I work with and have lots of friends in the entertainment industry and consider myself somewhat of a movie buff.

Its still fun to me to hang out here and Ive come across some very cool and interesting people here.

Although there are some people who just seem to be weirdos. Those serial ridiculous thread starters that start threads that makes one say "are you serious?".

Are you serious?

Let's see...on that scale, I would be...

Person who is fat - nope - in good shape
Person who is either very young or old - perspective - I'm neither
Someone who is lonely and looking for "company" - nope - just some intellectual stimulation
Someone who is jaded on relationships - well...
Someone with no life in the "real world" - define "real world"

So now we're being "profiled", huh? I object! Where's my attorney?
