Well, does asking this question mean you've got some regrets and have unfulfilled needs? No answers you're going to get here are entirely valid because we don't know you, your spouse, or the nature of your relationship over the years.
All of your adult life? Definitely independence. The sense of accomplishment you get by doing things for yourself, by yourself.
Not that being single doesn't get old, too. The grass is always greener on the other side. *sigh*
I disagree...I have been married pretty much my whole adult life (one 7 year relationship and now my actual marriage), and I feel like I have always carried myself. I know I can do it all myself because I set and reached all my goals myself.
