My sisters husband hung himself last night, and she found him.
Is life really all that bad, that someone makes this decision to end it themselves?

People's minds become dark and they've lost perspective. Their dark thoughts magnify themselves and they feel there is no way out; they are in tremendous pain. I read an exceedingly moving article on the author and professor David Foster Wallace who suffered from depression and really, really tried to be happy and gave much to his students. He endured depression for years and years - tried all kinds of medication. A good, sensitive guy.

I am sorry for your sister and for your family. Suicide in a family affects everyone.

I am so sorry, Yankeegirl! How is your sister coping with this???

I think it is deep down hopelessness. Everything seems so bad, that there's no hope in the future. It's either depression, alcoholism, or drugs of all kinds, prescription and non-prescription.

Oh, Yankee, I am so sorry...

Poor impulse control, anger, depression, the inability to figure out a solution for a looming "insurmountable" problem, mental/emotional problems...

She`s not... extremely upset, and possibly blames herself, thinking she could have saved him.
Depression and alcohol was definetly a factor, plus the fact that they were separating.
It just seems so.....FINAL! Wow!!

It's the day after. She's still numb and in shock though behaving rationally.

All you can do is be there for her. What a blow. Man oh man. I am sorry. Heavy stuff.

Do they have children?
