Not sure yet about this year but, last year I had a lobster steamed, had a steak ready to grill, lit some candles, set the mood and made a tasty dessert and that was our Vday dinner athome.
My husband and I aren't really into Valentine's Day.
I'll probably get some comments for being outrageously sexist, but men are pretty easy to please. The flowers and jewelry and romantic dinners and teddy bears and chocolate and spa weekend ... those are chick things. I don't think many men sit around eagerly anticipating what their girlfriends or wives are going to buy them for Valentine's Day. In my experience, the best thing to give a guy is his favorite home-cooked meal, some extra physical attention (like a shoulder massage), an evening full of appreciative words and no drama, and sex later.
You could do the romantic hotel night. You book a room at a nice hotel and do the whole romantic night-in thing. You both could even "meet" at the hotel bar.
You could always cook him a nice dinner at home wearing only lingerie, heels, and an apron.
Has there ever been a specific place that he's always wanted to have sex? Do it.
Hmm, or when he gets home from work or wherever, you could immediately blindfold him and have fun with him.
Do you guys have kids? That dramatically changes things up.
I agree though with what other posters have said. Good food, some sultry seduction (this is key! build up the anticipation!), and sex. He's good to go.
A few years back a group of people, both guys and girls, I know who dislike valentines day decided to get together to watch movies, play video games and in general do whatever anti-romantic things they can think of just to spite the holiday due to the bad relationship stuff that happened to them in valentines days past. Ever since it has been tradition. I will probably see if they are doing it this year and join them...last year it was a blast.

Didn't the OP ask for ideas to give as a gift to her SO?
