Sad to say that the bf and I are calling it quits. I'm sad because its ending a 10 year friendship and a 4.5 year lovers relationship. Its going to be odd losing someone who's been in my life for 15 years. We did so many things, made so many plans and had so many dreams together. Sad to see them diminish right before my eyes...

We are no longer happy with each other. Many factors leading into that.

You're a CD regular; care to share? Was this some kind of sudden revelation or the denouement of long simmering problems?

I think the denouement of long simmering problems. I think he's doing a cop out but he's a grown man and will learn from his mistakes. I have got to take care of myself and do what's best for me.

Sometime people just outgrow one another, especially when you start out young, then mature.

Actually we're 34/35 so we're definitely not young and we didn't outgrow each other by any means. He's just given up and I can't be with someone who can't stick it out through thick and thin with me.

He just decided that he didn't want to continue living the life he is and wants to go back to a much simpler life: walk away from me, house and bills, get a part time job, live in a crap apt, etc.

That's just not an option for me..

Wow this sounds so much like my deal but in the reverse.. She decided to do that too me.. walk away from a job that paid her well and was shocked when I said.. I cant take someone who is not on my side of the ball court.. needless to say.. it hurts like hell to begin with.. but eventually you will get over it.. and the sad thing is.. your skin becomes pretty darn thick.. but then again .. it could be my age.. I am an old man :-P

But I am sorry to hear that this has happened to you.. be well !!

It sounds like your boyfriend is going through a mid-life crisis. It reminds me of this story that was posted in another thread:
