Texting --- is it professional, personal, or both?
I recently got the family plan of unlimited texting so my teen wouldn't run up the bill using all of the minutes. This also allows me to text reminders afterschool.
However, a month ago... I got a text from a colleague asking about upcoming policy changes. Then, my realtor texts me short messages about viewing various houses.
So now I'm wondering..... Is this the new norm? as for myself, I have only text friends and family.
I'm also a single mom who hasn't been dating for a while so.... (ok... nevermind, maybe I'm reading way too much into it).

I removed my text feature for this exact problem - you can't control who texts you and YOU have to pay for it! Yes, people are doing this more and more and I guess you can tell I didn't like it either

I had some spam texts on a couple of occasions and wanted to cancel it, too. What really annoys me, though, is that if you cancel texting, you also have no Web access and can't transfer any data, like pictures. Not that I do any of this often, but I still like having these options open need be...

Texting is quick...and doesn't let everyone around you know your business by not talking outloud.

Not responding to texts is a great way a stop it. If you get a text for a professional purpose, call to give your response and ask that you be called in the future.

I have like 200 texts a month included on my iPhone, and I may use 2 or 3 a month.
I only text if:
it is something REALLY important and I am going to be in a place where I cannot talk and I really really need to let somebody know something, or find out something.
if it is somebody (actually a particular long-winded person) I really don't want to talk to...but I should really tell them something.

I've texted occasionally on biz, when I knew somebody was unavailable and I needed to get a message to them.

I don't have text feature on my phone, but recently found my email account has it...
it's by far my preferred means of communication (second to in-person)

This is exactly the reason that I don't WANT unlimited texting. My son and I both are limited to 250 a month. If I need more communication than that, I'll use the phone's calling feature. I don't have to worry about my son texting during meals, and at other inappropriate times, since he knows if he goes over, he has to pay the overage. Works great.

It's 100% personal for me -
with the singular exception of my realtor, who texts me.
