It doesn't sound like the women who conducted this study had any pre determined motive to show this result. They said they found it surprising.

No, it was a college experiment at Oklahoma State University. It wasn't done for commerical reasons, it was a study of human behavior.

I actually hope that you are right. But that's what's interesting about social science experiments like this. You get to see what people do as opposed to what they say they would do.
I also find it interesting that so far men are saying this is a no brainer while women are defensive about it and denying it. Once again I hope you are right. I would much prefer to live in a world where women are not interested in men who are off the market.

^ This.
I know I can be more comfortable being myself around marrieds. They also tend to not scrutinize so much (because they don't CARE if my hair is ugly, or I have no make up on today!) They also seem to be more out of the "gossip" loop which may very well be my biggest reason for being more comfortable in their presence. I reckon they have better things to talk about
However, I do know some slimy women who love the challenge, and whose purposes in life are to "one-up" the other. They are out there in abundance as well.

Well, there was this myth that men are hunters and women are selectors. I, as a woman though, think of myself as a hunter. I love the chase game, the fun and tension to getting a guy. But ever since I learned to put a revealing blouse on, there is no more hunt to it because all guys hit on me. Well, marrieds are a challenge.
I am talking from the perspective of a happily married person, my hunting days are over. Nah, actually I'm hunting my hubby over and over. But that's just a possible explanation to why some women want married men. Challenge, hunt, them being in initiative instead of guys hitting on them and doing the hunting.

Only read the OP but if true then seems to me that a man on the way to a divorce is having the time of his life. Not something I want to do, I love my wife.
P.S. If you're a smart blonde then let me know how we can meet.

I think George Costanza tried something like this on Seinfeld.... borrowing Kramer's dad's wedding ring and went to a party.
