Hey Brian. Some people are really immature and superficial. Unfortunately you met someone that never grew up. A lot of normal people enjoy hard rock and metal. Their album sales wouldn't be through the roof if it was only for the drunkards and gluttons. Almost everybody likes a few Metallica or Motley Crue songs.

and this has happend to me before

now what is funny is i was seeing a disco band (which is a really good band)

i suppose people have a stereotype about metal heads

well guess what
i have a job, short hair, shave every day, not a drunk, not a druggie, or a wife beater

it would be like saying that if you like dance music than you are a club skank, or if you like rap you are a crackhead shooting people, or if you like country than you drive a primered pick up truck and live on a farm, or if you like elton john than you are gay

it is a shame someone will judge you cause of the music you like

i have no problem with any one listning to any kind of music
even if i dont like it i dont judge people on their music

I'm ok with any music, even if I don't care for it, as long as I'm not stuck in a car listening to it.

I strongly agree the preference for some types of music reveals personality traits and background. I also can't stand any of the above. I'd add hip-hop to that, too. I don't even know what R&B talks about as I try to tune it out completely when it annoys me in some stores.

Everything else is a matter of taste. Even though it's very trendy, I dislike jazz. However, I'm not about to judge somebody for liking it.

The taste of music tells people A LOT about you! But I do know how you feel as I'm deeply into G funk/underground early 90's rap but most people lump "rap" into ONE catagory. As a matter of fact rap died in 1996 so this stuff you see now (lil wane, 50 Cent) is on par with Britney Spears but I digress.

So, it really comes down to how much people know, for example, someone like myself who knows more about different styles of music would take it a step further ask you what bands you like; to make my final assessment.

You know, if you told me you like Pantera, RUSH or the EARLY Metallica albums then we would be cool! But if you told me you were into slipknot or Ramstein then I would keep it moving. Those people ARE different and I would not want to be around them. Many of these "followers" love the idea of death and dying and they always look like have a dark cloud following them around. I'm sure many of those people are nice but I just don't want to be around that type of energy.

In the end, you can't blame ignorant people for not understanding you, I would just not bring up the subject at all and just rock some light oldies music! That's what I do, I don't tell people who I listen to because: 1. My music is scared to me. 2. If there not black /Chicano or Samoan they are going to hate what I listen to any $$$ way.

Maybe she had a bad relationship experience with a heavy metal fan [shrug]. But that doesn't justify her being a punk to you. Good that you found out how shallow she is now - it saved you a ton of time, effort, and money.

As for the degrading of women the rock/metal music i listen to doesn't, but you could make a case that any type of music does. Heck, r&b pretty much talks about nothing but removing a woman's clothing and wanting to have sex. Granted all musics are subject to stereotypes and you could find a case for any music type to be anything you want if you look hard enough.

My point is a lot of rap music doesn't have any message or meaningful things to say to me. Not all rap music is this way, but the majority of what i've heard is...and yes i used to listen to all types of rap when i was growing up. I see most rap as glorifying horrible things, about how they sold drugs, about new rims for a car, materialism, calling women all kinds of names, racism, violence, and promoting a terrible lifestyle. You could, like i said, find this in any music but you would be hard pressed whereas rap music it is very, very common.

I hear you loud and clear but I would argue that rock music by far has been the most influential music that has ushered people into drugs and alcohol abuse. It's in the millions! How many rock band members since the 60's are dead from overdose of drugs? How many people in the U.S alone have died from overdose of drugs and alcohol that was a direct cause of the influential nature of rock music? Before rap was even created you had a whole GENERATION of people getting high at Woodstock to Jimmy Hendricks or Queen.

As far as lyrics, I can't speak on racial slurs but I can speak on Lucifer or Satan. Rock music and the people who create it have this obsession with "the darkside." They all have close ties with the Church of Satan like the guy Marilyn Manson. Sff, that guy threw blood on the audience and ripped up a bible during a show; then told people to chant something Sounds like an initiation/ritual to me.

Anyhow, pretty much all the rock starts pay homage to this entity that I'm quite sure does not have anybody's interest in return.

But, you don't haft to believe me; it's ALL in this video; even the artist THEMSELVES explain what I have written.

You have a point, too. One can't list them all. That Marilyn Manson "guy" makes me gag!
