I have relationship phobia. As much as I would like to be in one whenever the opportunity arises I'm just taken aback and somehow sabotage it. What is wrong with me? It's like I have this ideal picture in my mind of how I'd like my love life to be but when it begins to pan out I am afraid.
Perhaps you're so used to being unhappy that the possibility of something working out right is scaring you in the sense that you'd not be able to carry yourself correctly in the new found situation.
The key is think less and act more - the more you just think about things, the more complicated they'll appear, the less you'll do, the more unhappy you'll be, the less probable it'll become that you ever work them out.
Unfortunetly, life is not a fairytale...like we were told when we were kids!
Just relax, take it one day at a time, and do not over analyze this stuff!

Sad that you may have missed out even once on a love of your life deal. I don't know how one can remedy such an issue, but I wish you luck.
I think it is somewhat normal to feel this way. There is a line, though, that you can cross with reaction. I absolutely freak out and do everything I can to push someone away when something good comes along. I can't even tell you why for sure. I only know that at times I get so overwhelmed and I am so afraid of getting hurt that I have to make sure that this new person is really in it with me - not just hoping for some easy ride. I settle down once I figure out he can handle me.
I'm sure you have your own reasons, and you probably know what they are. It's just easier to accept it, admit it, and move forward hoping to find someone who can put up with you.
