Would you date someone who had herpes? (dating, girlfriends, long-term)

Interesting situation came up with one my girlfriends lately. A guy she has been dating for about a month now told her that he had the herpes virus. He said telling her was the right thing to do because they've started to get hot and heavy and were moving to the next level. I've met the guy. He is smart, handsome, fun, well educated lawyer who is looking to for a serious long-term relationship. He comes from a good family (I know his sister) and he will make a great husband. I don't know what to tell my girlfriend. They are both 30 years old and I know she think's he can be the one. I couldn't tell her to run but to think about it. But I just don't know what to say? Any ideas?

There are great medications for dealing with outbreaks now.

Herpes is not the end of the world at all.

A friend of mine found out her husband (the only man she's ever slept with) was cheating because she contracted herpes from him.

She was definitely from a good family. Just because someone has herpes doesn't mean they weren't raised right.

I am pretty sure it isn't the end of the world. I am not sure of the exact statistics but a great portion of adults may have it and not even realize it.

This. Could be worse like hepatits or hiv.

Genetial herpes is just the genetial version of oral herpes (cold sores)

I doubt many people would have an issue with cold sores. Throw out herpes and the negative stigma is totally different.

One of my best friends dated a chick with the herp. It wasnt an issue.

Towards the OP, I think it says a lot that he told her before having sexual intercourse.

He could have had them 20 years and never had an outbreak and not have even known. Someone from way before her.

Of course, if he cheated he cheated. Just saying that could be a possibility for many.

I agree with you.

In addition, it is worth noting that many people who have herpes don't even know they have it because they've never had an outbreak, so they don't even know to warn their partners.
