The many wife beaters I have known, I know millions, they are all cowards in public lives. That frustration opens itself out inside the perimeter of the house, a sense of power to make up for the powerlessness outside.

You need to look if the guy is controlling before you marry him. Does he track where you go? Need to check up on you a few hundred times a day? Does he get overly jealous if you talk to another guy or just a girl friend?

A man who hits a woman...well, that is low.
Why do the women stay...because they have been psychologically battered by the guy first (most likely). He will look for someone with a victim mentality.

Do they have all of their teeth.

Can they spell their own names.

There are not always signs. You have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. You would be surprised how many apparently "good" men are real *******s.

Very true. My husband had a cousin who was apparently very meek and submissive to his wife in public. You'd think he was the henpecked guy. Turns out he was abusive to her.

I do know one thing, If I'm around a couple and the guy is a wife beater, I suspect it right away just by looking at the girls face when she is spoken to by her husband or boyfriend. It doesn't take long to recognize the little subtle signs.

I dont think there are really signs that lets you know that a guy is definitely a wife beater. But there are however common traits that most who are wife beaters may have. Some of them are:

Likes NASCAR
Smokes Malboro, Winston-Salem or uses skoal/copenhagen
Still wears a mustache even though its 2009.
Is a professional athlete (especially if plays for the Raiders, Bengals or is a boxer).
Still thinks he belongs to the Confederacy or flies the Conf. flag.
Has random tattoos on his arms, shoulder, chest or back.
No higher than 12th grade education.
Currently uses or at one time in his life used meth.
They wear the uniform - wife beater T-shirts and/or overalls.
He says "Im fixin' ta" instead of "I am preparing to" or he says "Mess'cans" instead of "Mexicans".
Drinks PBT or Old English 800 (or really any beer thats in a CAN)

You might think Im joking but Im not.
