It is never acceptable.

I mean, I have not once called my wife any kind of name. Ever.

Why would anyone marry someone they considered to be an idiot or a moron?

No. And if my spouse decided to call me that she wouldn't be my spouse anymore.

Why is that? Name calling is rude doesn't matter if it is a joke.

No I wouldn't call my spouse that, it would take a lot for me to call anyone that, much less my spouse.

I wouldn't call my love an idiot or moron, stupid, dummy, dumbass, or any other derogatory term. If I'm not calling him by his name, I am calling him by various terms of endearment that we share with each other. I can't imagine any condition when I would think it would ever be appropriate to do so.

Yeah exactly

I'm all for playful teasing but words like that in any context would only hurt so it's a big no no

Even at his most foolish, I've never even been remotely tempted to call my husband an idiot.

So, no.
