My sweet wife just sent me a beautiful card here at work with the most loving note in it. I mean, I am really touched and I'm not that sort. Her words were from the heart and I know she means them.

So I'd like to do something nice for her tonight to show my appreciation for her love & devotion, but don't want to go overboard. I can do the flower thing (and still might), but am looking to you for perhaps something creative.

For what it's worth, we're pretty much paupers.

Thanks

When my bro. was of little financial means he often would write poems for his SO.
Or you could send her a male stripper.

Absolutely no clue without more info. Does she work? Do you have kids? What does she enjoy? What's the weather like?

I'd say knock off work early and surprise her with a dinner you cooked or a picnic basket you can enjoy somewhere romantic. And get rid of any kids for the evening. Or show up at her work with a rose, a thermos of hot cocoa and take her ice skating or for a romantic stroll.

But, see, I don't know you, her, or your circumstances.

Maybe you could do the flowers and take her out to a nice dinner - or, you could get home before she does and cook her a nice dinner and have the flowers ready. Maybe even throw in a massage and a nice warm bath with some flower petals in the tub.

Portland, Oregon, temp is below freezing, I'm already grilling teriyaki chicken tonight, we don;t drink (so wine is out) and we have a hot tub we sit in very frequently (so I can't take her the local hot tub place). She works at home as a writer.

Aside from some flowers and reminding her how much she means to you when you get home, you could pamper her for the rest of the evening...cook, massage, draw a bath for her etc. You can always return the gesture at a later date with a letter of your own.

I'm not sure it's necessary to do anything for her right away, beyond calling her to say how much the card means to you and how lucky you are to have her. Then, tell her you plan to do something really nice for her, but you want to give it some thought so that it's really special. She'll appreciate that you're going to have her on your mind constantly for the next few days. With we women, it really is the thought that counts!
