Default What is your definition of "needy"?

I've been reading this thread about the childish behavior and came across the word "needy," which made me think I could never really define it...

The women I think of as being "needy" are those who call umpteen times a day and pretend to be (or ARE) incapable of doing anything on their own. I can't find a good word in the English language for this type, but it's not exactly "needy" what I'm looking for... it's more of a "spoiled brat"... Or perhaps they're too emotionally demanding...?

As far as men go, I'm not sure I can even come up with an example... I had one who was saying I "gave him life," which was true to some expend, I suppose...

I'd imagine it's one of those definitions we'd never agree on...

Needy and clingy women are probably the #1 turn-off for many men. It's a terrible diabolical trait to have.

My definition is pretty close to yours, sierra...either can't handle or don't want to handle things by themselves (doing things, making decisions, etc.); need tons of emotional support and/or validation. A need to be in close vicinity of the other person.

i went out with a girl and she would text me 5+ times a day just asking how i was doing. barely knew her.

went out with a girl once. had concert tickets next two friday that i bought with friends 4 months prior to meeting girl. she told me to cancel going to the shows and take her out. told her no, she got pissed and said she might not see me again. then she called me the next day asking what we were doing that day, pretending like she wasnt pissed at all the day before. she would ALWAYS tell me to cancel any plans outside of doing things with her. dated her for two months because she had a slamming rack, tiny waist and nice ass. that's when i hit my breaking point and listening to her complain and try and boss me around wasnt worth the sex.

those are two examples! pretty much just anyone that wont let the other person live their life without them in it constantly

I like this sentence itself, but wouldn't such people have that switch off all the time?

My definition is simple. It's any woman or man who believes they need a committed partner to complete them.

A relationship is NOT a matter of two halves coming together to make a whole. That's a recipe for disaster.

A relationship is a matter of two wholes coming together and enhancing one another.

My roommate used to have a girlfriend that wouldn't go anywhere in the apartment by herself. He literally had to escort her to the bathroom. That is a great definition of needy.

Sounds about right. I remember a thread here recently asking about what to text constantly when you have nothing really to say!

I have worked with guys that their wife, GF or SO call them at least 10 times a day. It is usually about nothing. I can see an emergency or whatever, but come on. Hey honey, whatcha doin? Well I was trying to take a crap before you bothered me! LOL...........
