I would think that go pretty far for a single person anywhere in the Carolinas, save maybe the NC Triangle.
Then again, if you're saying you'd have to be paid more to be serially single for 15 years, I certainly understand.
No it's definitely comfortable! Altho after taxes it's more like 80k. LOL. And yes I was saying if I had to make concessions I'd want a lot more than that!!!! LOL!!
Which would you choose? Assume you live in a major metropolitan area.
Two options only:
1. $130,000/yr income to start is guaranteed for the next 15 years and a raise indexed for inflation every year, but you absolutely cannot have a relationship with the opposite sex. You can date though, and have sex but no commitments, no marriage and no kids.
2. Maximum $40,000/yr income BUT the rest of your life is normal.
Sex with no commitment, no marriage, no kids? Gee, do you think many guys would go for this option? You can probably drop a zero or two from that figure and we would still jump at that option.
So you're implying that most guys place little if any value on commitment, marriage or kids?

Assume you are currently exactly 34 years old.
In the scenario listed above I would choose choose number 1. But I would prefer the status quo to both choices.
#1 would not provide normalcy to me whatsoever because I would go into it knowing better. I'd be miserable. Forget the husband, give me the 'flavors of the week.'
Choice # 1 would be for me. Can't stand kids plus money is beneficial. I would be able to finish paying my college years and then proceed on getting my master's or doctorate's.
And, conversely, $40K isn't that little. Perspective is an interesting thing.
40K in a major metropolitan area IS very little. Especially if you have a family.
