Do you think that the main reason a lot of women are single is because of the weight issue?

Chime in....please keep this thread decent. This is not a male/female bash thread.

Ron
No, I dont. I know as many thin women that are single as heavy women that are single.

Yes, I know I didn't do the height weight ratio, but let's take a 5 10 guy, and his ideal weight is around 160-170, and if he happens to be 220ish he still does not consider himself fat. Or at least, that's what the article claimed

Are you asking if women are single because of their weight? Or are you asking if they're on dating sites because of their weight?

Well, being 5'11 220lbs, I can assure you that it is fat. About 19% in my case. Pasta will be the death of me.

However I do not think that a person can say "anyone who is 250 lbs cannot be athletic." That is stupid, no other word for it.

as far as the double standard goes, sure, it is there. women will settle for weight, men will generally not. However this double standard is overstated; women are not so complacent in their selection. As someone who is fat, like I mentioned, I saw my prospects for hot 20-somethings dry up as I got bigger.

I have a friend - she is blonde, blue eyed, model-esque face, very funny, easygoing personality, educated, and financially secure. Solid marriage material for most any guy I know.

Yet she can't find a man to save her life, for ONE reason only - not literally her weight, or body fat % - but because she puts on weight in the wrong places.

we are simple, but cruel. women's cruelty is far more complex.
Yeah, I don't get this. I had a guy friend a while back who had a crush on one of our female friends. I asked him why he didn't ask her out and he said "well, she'd be hot if she lost 30lbs." What a dumb mentality some men have. He would rather have a slim ***** who will make his life miserable, than a sweet girl who needed to lose 30lbs.

Now why did you have to call the slim girl a name? Chill out.

Also, slim does not = miserable.

Since such a large percentage of our society is considered overweight and an even larger percent get married...and married...and married again, I would say no, being overweight has nothing to do with being single. It may keep you from the man/woman of your fantasies however.

I do think many women have turned to online dating in hopes that their personality will outshine any perceived flaws.

I kind of understand this mentality. If someone is willing to carry around those 30 extra lbs and not work to get rid of them, those 30 lbs could easily turn into 50 lbs, and then who knows? It shows a certain level of denial. I include myself in this, as I am 30-35 lbs overweight and although I tell myself I need to eat differently and move more, I haven't been sufficiently motivated to actually lose the weight!

People can be single for lots of reasons; being overweight is certainly one of them.
