They try to act like they're real busy, running around the house, disappearing for several minutes at a time, working in the kitchen when everything is done cooking, etc.
I am probably wrong but someone has to say it. If they are disappearing for a time period and acting strange, could they have a drug problem ?
I've seen this situation before where they disappear and they are in the bedroom doing a line or smoking strange chemicals.

Just a thought.
No, they go into the bedroom where the kids are watching tv or playing or they're off doing laundry. It's very bizarre to me. Especially since both my brother and his wife do it. He never used to be like this.

I was honestly wondering the same thing. I was also wondering if it is a social issue - but, then why would they invite all of the people in to their home?
No matter the reason I think you should talk to them about it. One way to solve the problem if they don't acknowledge the issue is to start holding holiday events at other peoples homes. Then you will know 1) how committed they are to hosting, and 2) if the can relax at other peoples homes.
Good luck. Families are fun.

I think you might be right, it's a social issue. I cringed for the neighbor's sake whom they invited also, when my brother said, "I could be out riding my bike right now".
I like that idea. I could tell everyone before they come over to go along with it.
I think it might work.... Worth a shot!
I know around here, I`ll get everything ready, and then tell everyone to dig in. I`ll go into the other room out of the way, then when the kitchen clears, I go fix my plate.
