For me it depends on a few main factors, but generally I'm pretty relaxed. Though wouldn't have said that in some of my teenage years.

Likely to be relaxed if :

*The people I'm with I get on well with
*My day hasn't been too stressful
*The reason why we are there is of interest to me

On the other hand I know others who are often tense in social settings.
I'm not joking when I say, even though I'm into fitness and health I think the best thing these people can do is get a few drinks into them (providing no health issues with it).

What about you are you generally relaxed or tense and what does it depend on?

I am antisocial by nature so unless there's someone I know I will feel a little uncomfortable.

I'm at my best around others. Whether entertaining, being a guest, or just out together, I love it. I really enjoy most people.

It largely depends on the setting and the people.

Normally tense, but I've learned to overcome it and be effective socially. I don't enjoy it much, but I can keep a conversation going and mill about and not make too many people angry.

I much prefer small groups. I get exponentially more tense the more people are around.

i used to be VERY tense. as i have come slowly out of my shell, i no longer feel like people are judging me and so i am more relaxed. if they are judging me that is ok too. if they choose to get to know me, then only they will know if their judgments are true or unfounded. i am no longer afraid of what people think of me. i know me, and what others think doesnt matter.

You know what's funny? Social situations never stress me out. I am fine around any group of people at any time...UNLESS

I am wearing uncomfortable, fancy clothes.

Then I get tense.
