It's like saying uncorrect for incorrect. Many will even argue why not
Handsome Woman Definition: A woman with the kind of refined beauty and attractiveness that requires poise, dignity, and strength of mind and character, things that often come with age; not merely sex-appeal. Usually applied to a woman who is also very well-groomed and from an upper class background.

This phrase is very dated and rarely used in today's English. Those who don't understand the term could almost be insulted by the word "handsome" being applied to a woman, mistakenly thinking you're saying she is masculine. (Urban Dictionary)

I don't think so, not really. If you look at the women they call handsome I think they have one thing in common, sort of a robust look (for lack of a better term) about them, very refined, polished and dignified, sometimes poised.

That works. But I have heard it used, even recently. I can't remember the actress they were talking about but I think she was about 40. It suited her is all I remember.

I have heard the word "handsome" as a term to describe an attractive woman who is older or aging.

...aging well. The ones I've seen called handsome (the famous ones) have taken attention away from younger famous women everywhere they go.

I would prefer someone who was humble and not some cocky jerk who tried to sign up for a "beautiful" people site. Knowing a guy thought he was hot would be a turnoff to me.
