Ya know, I have a few fedora's that I wear quite a bit, but I have never once wore a top hat, nor have I ever shoved some big clear ugly thing up against my eye - that's what glasses are for.
As for fedora's, they've been around for a long, long time, and I don't see them going away anytime soon.. but, one has to be picky about the hats they choose. I've met some cool people that look completely goofy in a fedora - but then I've met some goofy people that look pretty damn cool in one.
Still, to each their own. If ya want to wear a friggen top hat, go right ahead. Just remember that most doorways are only 7 foot high or so.
Depends on the social occasion though I would say Monocles are fairly thin on the ground these days ! I still go to a lot of social occasions where Top Hats and Morning Suits/Full Evening Dress are the norm and I quite like it. Our society is losing a lot of its variety and character and dressing up can be fun. I must admit a man in evening dress is usually far more sexy than in lounge pants and a fleece... To me anyway. The last time I saw a monocle being worn was by a German Diplomat and he did look slightly evil I must say !
Beats a baseball cap and cheap sun glasses. At least Mr. Peanut looks like he cares about himself and his appearance.
