A desperate statement by someone who knows they've already blown their chance - or a calculated statement made to a partner with low self-esteem by a manipulator.

It may be true to an extent. People are different and they love in different ways.
But is it intended that way? I think people who usually say this are referring to the "quantity" of love rather than the "quality." Meaning, they're saying "no one will value you as much as I do," rather than "no one will treat you exactly the way that I do - our love is unique"
Yep. Don't tell me you're good/better than the rest. Let your actions and the moral choices you make do the talking for you. 9 times out of ten, people who utter this statement can't cut it in the credible actions and moral choices department when it comes to their relationship.
Or is it just psyco-babble created to put some sense into your drifting away SO?
Please discuss.
So much depends on context. It could be a manipulative statement, for the purpose you say. In which case, the response would be, "OMG, I hope not!!"
