I usually just like to post when the thread is new (less than 2 pages) If it has over 5 pages or so it is already talked to death and there is really no reason for me joining in (unless it is something that I really want to voice my opinion on!)
I've found that the last 6 and on pages of posts are exactly the same as the first 6 pages - obviously people don't read them. I won't read a thread that's more than 6 pages because of it.
I'm curious because USUALLY I can only read a few pages, unless it's something I find extrememly entertaining...
I'm really bad with that. I usually just read the original post of the thread and reply right away. Then I go back and read some of the thread just to find out what I've said have been already said.
If it's the first post I have made, I'm answering the OP, so that's the post I want to answer. I can go back and read multiple pages of the thread AFTER I've answered. I don't need other posts to comment on the original, even if other people say the same thing I do--or if they see it a completely different way. Either way, my response isn't based on those posts.
If I think I might have something to say then I absolutely read the whole thread before replying. I personally find it really irritating when a replying poster obviously only reads the first post and then bounces in pages later with something completely redundant. Worse when that same poster who's ignored the thread jumps on the OP for something that he or she has already magnified upon or explained in later posts. Thanks for asking!
If its a thread that has taken off the same day that I'm reading it then I usually read most of it, especially if its really interesting to me or if its less then 4 or 5 pages. But most times I'll read the 1st 3 and the last 2 so I can have an idea where people are leaving off.
You can always tell who tried to get their "two cents in" prior to reading the entire thread, as their post has nothing to do the the sub-topic the last twenty posts have been discussing. I've been guilty of that practice.
If a thread is about some junior-high type of dilemma, I don't even read the original post and look for some fun down the line. Most threads I skim over and read only the people I find smart and/or entertaining. Reading a whole thread is pretty rare - it's either very interesting or it contains more details about a serious situation I'm inclined to give input into.
