Hi! I'm a 28-year old female from Europe currently living in Atlanta, GA.
I have a question about some cultural differences I've noticed between Europe and USA in regards to dating.
Most of the time, when you start dating somebody in Germany (if it's a nice guy), as soon as there is kissing and sex, you're automatically exclusive, there is no talk about it. You're automatically boyfriend and girlfriend.
From what I've read, heard and seen in America, it's considered OK to date a couple of people at the same time, 'explore what's out there', and I guess sleep with those people. One guy I dated did that to me, and I honestly felt like he cheated on me when I found out. If it's really that normal here, this just makes me not want to have any physical contact at all with a guy until we officially become 'exclusive'.
What do you guys think? Is it true, or am I under the wrong impression? Is it just scumbags that do that?
It is a bit more casual here on this side of the pond but most situations require the parties to specifically state they are just looking for a good time. Otherwise, they're simply a scumbag.
Move on, by the way, there are plenty of wholesome kind American boys that you can fill your time with.
I would suggest moving on, I'm a guy who has been in similar situations, if not am in one now, and I think it's an immediate turn off when a woman does that to me. I don't waste my time. When people multi-date they are breeding disease and heartache. For those who argue about the what if's about whether the one you date is right, I suggest moving slower and or finding more ways to get to know that one person better, or faster, but ultimately time will tell. And there are genuine guys out there that if interested will dovote their dating time solely to you, the ones that don't are players and will probably never change until it's too late.
