And I once went out with a guy with a receding hairline/male pattern balding and a beer belly. So I can't be a hypocrite either.

I guess it depends on what kind of relationship they're looking for. If it's a fling or a brief ego-boost, then, yeah, they're going to focus like a laser on looks.

The only thing I CANNOT overlook is a weight problem. Now, I'm not talking about a little paunch -- that's not a problem. Hey, I'm 45 and, while fit, I don't have the firmness I did when I was 25 so I don't expect men around my age or older (I don't date much younger men) to be largely flawless. All I DO care about is that they make an effort to keep fit, as I do. That shows self-respect and a commitment to health, which is VERY important, IMO.

Baldness? Doesn't bother me in the least. Some wrinkles? Not a problem. Kindness, respect, intelligence, neatness, attentiveness, and a sense of humor are the KEY attributes for me. When those are present, the man is VERY attractive to me and excellent relationship material.

When I was much younger, friends and family talked me out of some very nice men because they "weren't good enough" for me. And as a foolish young woman, I listened, at first. But when I later saw those men with just average-looking women they treated like princesses -- and I was listening to those who told me I deserved much better -- I learned a huge lesson.

Sure, there will always be shallow people in both sexes but it's really not fair to generalize.
