Even in the big city there are places to avoid and places where everyone is super nice and friendly. Sherman Oaks and Studio City here in Los Angeles are two places where people always seem to be super friendly. Not flirty, but just friendly.

I really don't think all cities or burbs are like this. Its you being approachable in the situations. So congrats...you don't look like a creepy rapist.

But this should also tell you that the city has many more people that will use you to suit what purpose they have for you and then move on.

I should also note that the anonymity of cities make strangers more comfortable in approaching, talking up, and flirting with other strangers. If things turn south, no big deal. You'll probably never see the other person again. In smaller areas, the chances of running into that person again (or him/her knowing someone you know) is much higher.

As for me, I've found that I get hit on the most by random guys when I'm in a different country, and it's not even the nice "I want to get to know you" flirting. It's the "Hey, I think you're beautiful. My compliments should make you fall into my bed," type of flirting. I've discovered the best way to deter unwanted advances from male strangers is to say the following magic words: "I am fifteen." They scurry away so fast!
