A lot of people are religous and would never go to a bar. Other people just don't like them.. maybe they dislike crowded places or drinking. I don't think it is weird.
I don't go to bars as much as I used to but it can be fun from time to time and I like to hear live music. The thing I hate about bars though is cigarette smoke. After spending an evening in a typical bar your clothes smell from it and you can't avoid coming into contact with it. I'm glad that a few bars are starting to go smokeless.

That is the awesome thing about Arizona.. we have a "no-smoking indoors or within 15 feet of a doorway" policy. That is the best thing about bars and restaurants here.. no smoking!! Smokers have to sit outside on the patio. The only place you can't get away from smoke is casinos (indian reservations).
I don't mind bars, so long as they're not overly crowded and/or playing thump-thump-thump retarded monkeyspasm music. I prefer places with a more relaxed atmosphere. Such places are all too rare, so needless to say I do most drinking at home or at friend's homes.

I lived in the Phoenix area until two years ago when I moved here and I remember that there were some cities in the metro area that passed a no smoking ordinance before others did. I worked in Tempe and as I recall they passed their ordinance but you could still smoke in bars in Phoenix. A bar I went to occasionally with coworkers said it would put them out of business and it did. I don't know what's happened since I moved away but it only seems fair if the law is statewide and from you're saying it sounds like that's what they've done.
Yes, smoking is illegal inside here too.
All the smokers do tend to gather in the doorways, but I heard the other day something about a new bill to outlaw this.
I also think it mentioned something about smoking in cars, and houses, but I didn't catch the details.

Every club/bar has had several shootings/murders, folk getting stabbed and of course who can forget those lovely Pier 6 brawls? Google club/bar violence and you'll see what I'm talking. Just about every club in Jacksonville has had at least 3 murders/shootings, and I'm not talking about just hood clubs but even the more upscale, non-violent ones.
Looking through the eyes of the world today I can see where many people would think of me as weird because I don't go to bars. There are alot of people that go to bars to feel accepted and popular. What good to mankind comes from bars? All I ever read about is shootings, fights, and drunks driving home killing innocent.

off topic, but this reminds me. North Carolina passed a new law that prohibits tobacco consumption in bars, restaurants, et cetera.
Well, there is a hookah bar in my old neighborhood that really did not like this. The guy who runs this place is crazy as hell and already hates the government.
He notices the law has a loophole - you can smoke in these establishments as long as you are an actor/actress, and you are being filmed. So he puts up a few webcams around the bar, broadcasts them on the internet 24/7, and calls it "The Smoking Show," a live reality-based webcast theatrical production portraying people smoking while interacting in peculiar social situations. To enter the bar you have to sign this document stating that you're an actor, you agree to these terms to be filmed, etc.
