Hi all! I'm back from Haiti, just in time for the rains to come, it seems. it was great and terrible and scary and amazing and all those things.
I was in a small town outside Port au Prince and ran an outpatient clinic. We saw hundreds of patients a day, mostly refugees from the city whose regular doctor had died or their own clinic or doctor's office was gone. Not that they have great health care anyway but things like pregnant women who needed prenatal checkups, people who were on meds for chronic conditions and had no way to get their medicine. Few trauma patients. Lots of lacerations from people who have been digging through rubble and came up on rebar unexpectedly, etc.
Mostly I directed the clinic and told the nurses, docs, med students who needed what and what patients needed to be seen first, etc. It was kind of like here - 16 hour days and full waiting rooms. Only every one of these patients - to a man- thanked me. And I thanked them.
Anyway, I'm glad to be back to say hi to my friends here. I missed my animals. Oddly, I did not miss my cellphone or laptop. Hope all is well.

Did you see the news this morning - there's been an 8.8 earthquake in Chile...they say there may be 1-3 feet waves in Malibu...I don't know if it will affect you down there...

The whole pacifc rim is moving around. I was just telling mrs. Chow, pull up a map and look, we're due for some siesmic activity. Japan, Chile and North America are all on the same plate.
I think Sierra might be cheating on us (CD members) with a man.
