You know how when you fill out certain applications (e.g. car insurance), you have to select your status, and two of them are 'Single' and 'Divorced'.
I always wondered - is 'divorced' considered 'bad'??? Why is it even an option?

It's a way of discovering alternate sources of income, like alimony, I would guess.

It is for statistical purposes. But yes divorced is considered bad.

The stigma of divorce is eroding. Nowadays, if you've never been married, people look at you like you're an alien. If you've been divorced, it isn't noteworthy.

That data is collected for statistical or actuarial purposes in some instances. On an insurance application, I imagine your marital status affects your premium. I've heard a few stats about married vs. single people--not sure about divorces, though.

The women processing the applications are more interested in the divorced men. Battle tested.

I always wondered - if I select 'single', are they going to check the court records to see if I'm lying??? Would it be insurance fraud? After all I AM single...and, well, divorced, too.

Why would I be kidding. Denny is right tho, divorce is now so common I guess it is not considered noteworthy anymore. Single is the new divorced.
