How can anyone answer this question?

My answer is it depends:

How old is he?
Is he still in school?
Does he have a strong work ethic or is he working between vacations?
Has he figured out what he wants to be when he grows up or is he starting on a new career path?

I voted in the 40-60k range because if the wife is working (even with a similar income range) the couple can actually live comfortably on that income. My husband as well as my brother earn much more than the 40-60k range and we all have nice lives, but I can look at my mom and step-dad and they are absolutely cozy and happy on a modest retirement income.

Happiness is really about working well with what you got. More is often just...more; not necessarily happier or more fulfilling.

Pssss, a career that never gets sent off to another country or the need never goes away helps. How much you make today isn't necessarily what you will make tomorrow. A job that retired guys get bribed to go back anytime they want to and can pick-up right where they left off. The employer doesn't care how old you are. They will take you over some greenhorn grad from tech school any day. One of the few jobs that is still in demand. It never goes away. Many kids don't have the skills today to do it. Many could care less and wouldn't last an hour. Requires a clean record and valid drivers license. You must be very dependable and trustworthy. You must be a risk taker/dare devil. You have to be a hard worker and in great physical condition. Mechanical aptitude and great skill is required. Money is average on the scale. It is not so bad after all, is it?
