Hi GirlWhoLovesLife,

It has nothing to do with being hangers. The models look like boys because gays in the fashion industry like boys. Woman also find boyish features in women appealing because women also like boys. That is who their market is. The models that make both women and gays happy is the androgynous boyish looking female model.

I don't think the phrase in red is really true. Yes some men seek thin women, but most of us aren't that picky. IMO. Somehow, I think women perceive this to be true, but I don't think so.

We get, we get it, men are incredibly picky and like to make women feel bad about their bodies.... this woman is too thin, that one too chunky, this one has too small breasts, that one has too big of a butt, etc....
This is just my opinion, but.. The figure you describe is obviously a fantasy. The men's magazines are catering to those fantasies to sell copies. I think (hope) most men realize this by the time they are in their early 20s. Maybe, maybe not. But eventually, most men come to the realization that this "fantasy woman" is not real. As to the magazines, they will keep publishing what sells.

As to men liking to make women feel bad about their bodies. In my experience it seems it is women who like to make women feel bad about their bodies. They get hypercritical about every imperfection, real or not. If their man doesn't tell them they are perfect, convincingly, they get upset because he is telling her she is imperfect. When in fact, he may have been trying to compliment her. Or he may have thought she wanted constructive criticism (bad idea).

But there have been men in this very thread and other places on this forum referring to women who aren't their ideal as "horrible monsters" or "beasts" or "skeletons". How exactly is that kind of (ooh! ooh!) shaming language supposed to make women feel good about themselves?

Good point. I wasn't even thinking about the forum posts when I wrote that. I was thinking about RL. But I have seen those posts.

First, what some men say, doesn't validate the statement, "men are incredibly picky and like to make women feel bad about their bodies...." OK, I know that's not a valid defense.

Second, everybody has preferences. Some of those we feel stronger about. Just because someone says you're "too fat" or "too thin" doesn't mean you "have" to feel bad about your body. YOU decide WHO you are. Then go from there. I'm not saying not to listen to others, but they don't have the final say in YOUR life.

Third, if you want to feel good about your body, start with your health. Personally, I think all standards of beauty are based on good health. Yes I know some people seem to be exceptions, but I think the statement stands. I have seen healthy women who were "chunky" who had no problems with getting men. Yes some men won't touch them but so what!?

Sorry, didn't mean to go on so long.

OK then what about the women designers...

Sorry but this is just not true. And there are men designers that are putting thicker women on the runway. They use almost 6ft teenagers so of course they are skinny. The form of the adult body with true curves (not fat) does not have the versatility to showcase designs. A show is about the artistic surreal. Not LIFE. You want life go out your front door. Not to a fashion show. You are not at a fashion show to see people. You are there to pick what you are buying for your store for the next season.

Gwynedd, I don't understand this. Heterosexual women like men, yes, but that doesn't mean they find boyish women attractive. Would you say that heterosexual men find effeminate men attractive?
