I have a similar response when people label me as smart or intelligent.

If I was actually smart, then I would be rich and probably hanging out at home checking out my investments online and looking at porn rather than working a tedious job 50 hours a week.

Those who give unwanted advice are simply trying to run your life because they have decided you don't have the good sense to run your own life.

Whenever someone approaches me with unwanted advice I simply ask them when did their life reach the pinnacle of perfection that allows them time to tell me what's wrong with my life? (The people who give unwanted advice usually have tons of problems.) Then I politely ask them to turn that same energy into their own lives and let me run mine.

You can be smart but unambitious, or an non-materialist.
