Thanks guys and gals! For males, it just seems to be a personal preference thing and not that guys are thinking something sexually negative with regards to females with tattoos.
To DC Native about giving the dating service a shot: Gosh. That's a toughie. You'll have plenty of "hmmmm" moments with folks you meet on an Internet dating site, but "hmmmmm" moments are just a part of life. If your normal daily activities and hobbies/interests cause you to meet plenty of women, then I don't think you would need an Internet dating service. But, if you're not meeting as many women as you would like, or you would like to try and expand your choices (women in VA, MD & DC, etc.), and can handle not seeing the merchandise first before engaging in conversation/questions, then I would say give it a shot.

Cool. I used to have an active social life and I met quite a few women without using the internet. Now? I have 2 jobs (gotta pay em bills ya know?), and hardly any time to meet new people outside of working, and my circles of friends don't have any... how should I put this... fresh female faces with enticing merchandise along with good personalities to boot

Ok woman, you must be a long lost cousin of mine!
I was just about to answer the ignorant comment about "why have one if it's not in a place to make you look"
I got a tattoo for ME! Yeah, can you believe THAT?!
Something that I drew that has meaning to me. And it's below my collar bone but a bit on - so that if I need to hide it (like for work) I could - yet you can see it sticking out sometimes. But that's not why I got it there. It's just where it felt it should be - near my hear, but near my neck... And I ALMOST didn't get one because they were so "in" - at least down in SOBE (South Beach for the uninitiated ) - but not doing something because it's "in", is the same as doing something because it's "in" - so I went with what I wanted to do. This was back in '96. Some people say once you get one you'll want more, but not me...
HEY HEY HEY!!! THAT WAS MY 1000TH POST!!!

I don't mind tatoos on men as long as its something small, but men who are covered turn me off big time.
I have always thought that was probably brought about by how I was raised. While I have done all I can to get away from that belief system, I am sure there are prejudices I will never be able to eradicate.
Body art and peircings are a BIG NO NO in the Adventist Church. My Mother cringes when she sees my daughter with a temporary childs tat on.

Doesn't Jesse James(who I personally think is perfect example of a sexy bad boy) have a "tat" on his hand that says "pay up sucker" or something like that? If you look at the number of "tats" he has it didn't seem to hurt him, look who he is married to
I agree with the other posters that say it is a personal choice.

I am thinking about getting one in tribute to my deceased parents. I want something original and not really big. I also am considering having some of my fathers ashes mixed in the ink so that I will always have a part of him with me.
I had seen this done on a "Miami Ink" episode. Thought it was touching. I think it would be a great tribute to my parents.
I am hesitant because of the pain. Are they that bad ???
Anyone have any ideas ?

I think that's a very good reason for getting yourself inked, if you're so inclined.
To answer your question about the pain, IMO, they're not that bad. Uncomfortable, yes, but not unbearable. A lot will depend on where the tat is done & what it is that you're getting done.
For example, the tat I have on my ankle did hurt, but the worst parts were over the front of my ankle where it connects to the foot, both because the design criss-crossed over itself several times & because the skin there is very thin. If you're getting the tat on someplace more "fleshy" it doesn't hurt as much.
Outlining the tat hurts worse than filling it in. Once you get past the outline, it gets easier to take. If you get something really big, or if it's like mine & the design overlaps itself a lot, it may be more uncomfortable. Anything that goes over thin skin right over a bone is also going to hurt more.
To me, it felt like a lot of tiny electric shocks where the needle was going. On my pain scale, I'd say maybe a 3.5-4 out of 10. 10 would be child birth (for me...labor hurt like a bi*ch!! ...right up until the epidural... ) 8 would probably be one of my horrid ankle sprains, 5-6 would be "Aunt Flo" pain.
Hopefully that helps put it in perspective...I can't really think of a better way to rate the pain level...
I would have more if I could afford them.
