For my last two jobs they wanted a picture and a resume before the interview... If I'm going to swap bodily fluids with someone I think the screening process should be at least as rigorous.

Or better yet go to match.com or eharmony or yahoo personal and post a picture and resume and instead of opinions you can actually get dates. Skip a step. Go right for the money.

Was it an appearance oriented job like modeling or marketing?

Sorry this is off topic, singleguy, but if a prospective emloyer requires a photo first, that is against the law and a matter for the EEOC. (With certain exceptions, as nichirenx pointed out.)
