Storms in Our Lives
How do you deal with the storms in your life? I've heard many songs about Praising God in the storm, and read verses in the Bible about trusting God because he will make my path straight.
What causes these life storms and what do you do to get through them? Before I was a believer in Christ I somehow muddled through them. Now as a believer in Christ I am thankful for the storms as I know I am becoming stronger through them. It isn't fun to go through but because I've been through my fair share I'm learning that if I steer into the storm that is usually the quickest way out (to deal with the problem or situation head on), versus avoidance...which I used to be soooo good at. And sometimes still can be.
Is there a specific storm in your life, or was in your life and how did you deal with it? I will post my storm when I can think about how to word it since it's an ongoing battle.

Well, Hoosier, I've been through many storms! The majority of them was when I wasn't saved, but I don't necessarily assume that I went through them without Christ, because I can surely say that there were many believers who prayed on my behalf, so I am so thankful for that! But I would say the most major storm brought me indefinitely to the Lord, and He brought me through it in an amazing way!
IMO, I think the "storms" in our lives bring us closer to the Lord, which is what He intended for us, to have a true relationship with Him. That is deep and rich in love, patience and trust, as a Father/child relationship should be.
Those are my thoughts, have a wonderful weekend.

In Matt 14:22 a storm came up when Jesus and His disciples were in a boat, it's important to realize Jesus SENT them into storm, He told them to get into the boat. When Peter saw Jesus walking on the water he said "Lord if it's really you, tell me to come to you by walking on water". Jesus said "All right, come". Peter was just fine until he looked around and saw the high waves and he got terrified and began to sink and called out to Jesus "Save me Lord" and instantly Jesus reached out his hand and grabbed him. It's the same for us, if we don't keep out mind and thoughts focused on Jesus we will sink when we start to get tossed around in life. Peter faith faltered but he reached out to Jesus the only one who could help him, he did not let his fear keep him from Christ. This what I believe about storms that come into our lives, God is behind the storm, God is in the storm, and He is over the storm, but most important He will bring you through the storm.

I've been through storms in my life also, and through FAITH, I have gotten through them and God has shown his presence to give me the strength and let me know that he will carry me through the storms.

Lulu, ILNC and Hoosier, I do believe you have said it all for us.
Trials and storms occur and how we weather the storm is according to who we seek during this trying time. When we focus on Jesus, and put our storm at His feet and surrender our will to Him; as well as turn this storm over to Him, we shall weather it much better than if we try in our flesh to go through it. Our walk in faith becomes stronger each time we give these storms and trials to Jesus, we mature as christians and realize that indeed, we shall see many storms, but our pilot has a 100% track record in steering clear of the rocks and other obstacles that might arise. We must also remember, that as we grow in our faith and maturity, satan will try even harder to bring us down, turn us from Christ or sink us with sin. He is stealthy, and sly, not coming at us as a warrior, but as a stalker, finding our weaknesses and exploiting them little by little until we do not recognize what we do as sin. We must always be on our guard and stay focused on Christ, our pilot, to steer us clear of this danger.
Storms are part of our daily lives, they can be tiny and quick, or huge and lingering. Our quick and decisive action by bringing this to the Cross is what keeps us from being so wounded we might not recover.
I know in my own storms of life, one that I call my wilderness walk, just not for 40 years , I could so easily have fallen into a victim mentality and sat around and whined why me for a very long time, but when I realized my flesh could not obtain victory over this serious wilderness walk, I hit my knees and gave it all to Jesus. What a sweet victory, and how wonderful the feeling of knowing I was not alone, and how great to feel the heavy burden lifted from my heart and shoulders. What comfort our Savior brings, if we only ask.

Problems are something we all go through. God knows I have had some real heavy ones. Some were a direct result of bad decisions and disobedience and some came from nowhere, but through it all God was always been my present help. I have learned "in my weakness HIS strength is made perfect." U have to go through to get through We r not in this world without hope

I have had my share of storms in life over the years. I have learned that no matter how big the storm is that if I hold fast to my faith that there will be a wonderful rainbow at the end

The storms I have experienced in my life have always made me stronger in the end....I've always learned something from each one too.
I look at most storms as a 'test' of sorts...My faith usually pulls me through...and I know that He will always protect me from evil no matter what the circumstances of that storm.

One thing that has helped me a HUGE deal is the scene right before Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead. He waits four days to go to the tomb because the belief was that the spirit lingered three days. The part that gets me is this:
32 Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” 33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled. 34 And he said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to him, “Lord, come and see.” 35 Jesus wept. 36 So the Jews said, “See how he loved him!”
Jesus knew he would raise Lazarus from the dead, so he wept (the word actually means a wailing of anguish) because he saw the ones he loved in such a state. He loves me this much, too. Ultimately, God was glorified through Jesus rasing Lazarus from the dead. I know that trials come my way, but God is glorified because of them and He cares enough to weep through them.
