My story is pretty much the same as everyone else's. I was googling a city in Alaska and stumbled onto CD. I noticed several posts in the Alaska forum about a town in which I had lived. Since no one really seemed to know the answer to the questions, and the location is quite the culture shock to the unprepared, I joined and started posting. It didn't take to long to learn that there are only a handful of Alaskan posters (who all happen to give excellent info and advice). When I found that I couldn't rep any of them because I had to spread the love, I started looking around and found the other forums.
I peeked into the Religion forum, saw the thread titles, and slipped right back out. When there was a silly thread in Other Topics about gaining reputation points, Hoosier told people that the posters over here just loved giving out points and demerits. This was echoed several times in that thread. Finally, I said that this place would probably give me a headache and I wasn't touching it with a 10 foot pole. Well, someone who understood what I was saying graciously invited me to view a thread that was nothing but uplifting, so I hesitantly ventured over. By the time I got to the thread, a couple of naysayers had infiltrated it and said some things that I just couldn't let stand without rebuttal. I still steered clear of the place, however. Occasionally, I would tiptoe back in, peek at a thread and if I saw something that was just begging for an answer, I posted. I'm not willing to say I'm addicted, yet. My daughter, however, thinks I need a 10 step program to wean myself away from the Religion forum. (But she loves looking at my responses and is envious that the CD forums are very active. The one forum in which she's allowed to participate has been waning lately.)
