Blessed Are The Meek For They Shall Inherit The Earth (God, scripture)

Sermon on the Mount,this was one of the Beatitudes which was spoken.What does the meek shall inherit the Earth mean ? Who are the meek??

It means the meek will inherit the earth. Those who are teachable and humble, who put God first, will live forever on earth. God created the earth and pronounced it 'good'. He 'did not create it simply for nothing'. He 'formed it even to be inhabited'. Therefore his original purpose for the earth will be fulfilled and it will be returned to the paradisaic state it was intended to be.

I interpret as, those who are meek/pacifist shall inherit the earth because the powerful shall destroy themselves.

Maybe I'm off on that, but its how it makes sense in my head.

One of my reference books has it describe as "peacefully inclined." That could refer either to the individual or to a community. The writer seems to imply that you shouldn't go looking for trouble or you will have a hard time getting the reward (blessing)

I took it to be we are supposed to be defining who the meek were...but knowing me I missed the point once Daffy popped into my head.

SO, albeit when the assertive, aggressive, overbearing a**holes of the world get through trashing it, then the MEEK can have what's left? Inquiring minds wanna know. As you can see by the bold fonted words; there are plenty of negative synonyms for the word 'meek'.
I guess its subjective to the context; when talking about a 'wealthy businessman' we say "he is assertive & self-assured"....However; when they speak about that same business person that happens to be a WOMAN; she is "a *****, aggressive, bombastic, shrew, nagging, overbearing".
