Thought of renaming the forum
The idea of having another religious type forum bothers me a little. At first I thought it would be a good thing, and then I started thinking more deeply.
I wonder if there would be enough non-Christians to sustain what would remain if they had their own forum. Looking at the present list of topics, there would be little to interest anyone else. If it did evolve into more, would the Fundies refrain from posting here anyway? I doubt it. They would still feel that they were commanded to preach/witness/whatever.
For a new forum to work well, Christians would have to agree as to what a Christian is. That's not going to happen. So many of the posts are to refute what another christian has said. It seems so important to many to debate how the earth started or how Noah got all those animals in the Ark, or whether Gays can believe in God. Why do they argue so long and hard? Do they feel that it is imperative to prove that their way is the only way? I simply do not understand that way of thinking.
I don't think the problem is having just the one forum. It's more the problem of dealing with the dogmatic way that some have of debating. It's "I am right, God's on my side and YOU are wrong." No room for another viewpoint. Never! They don't understand how hateful they sound. That's the sad part.
Peace!

Padgett,
I understand completely what you are saying. And I have to admit, I never even considered that I, a nice Catholic girl, would not be welcomed into the "Christians Only" forum. But, there you have it, that is certainly an obvious question.

I dont know if I fit the "fundie" mold, never gave it any thought really, but I am a Christian, and personally I like to debate, thats one of the "perks" of the forum with a mixture of ideas and thoughts, are we all gonna see things the same? no, def not. Do I like sharing my "christian" perpective? of course, we all like to share our thoughts and ideas. IMHO a christian forum wouldnt keep anybody out, just a place to talk about christian things.

While I agree it would be difficult to keep the non-Christians away from the Christian forum, and the Christians away from the non-Christian one. It would be really nice if Christians could have in-house debates without people who don't agree with Christianity, and will never open thier minds to the possiblity of Christianity being true trying to bust up the conversation.
As for getting people to agree on who is Christian and who isn't most Christians agree with the The Nicene Creed.
The Nicene Creed
It is generally agreed to by the scholarly type Christians that after you agree with the Nicene Creed, that everything else is an inhouse debate.
As for dogma rather than facts controlling people (atheist with their anti-dogma are often as bad as religious people with theirs) The only way to fix that is to suspend people who are out of control. A forum can not fix a heart or a mind unless it recognizes that it is broken and is willing to accept the changes that need to be made.

I think the Nicene Creed would pretty much define basic Christian beliefs. Kudos wzippler!
I guess I am okay with a Christian sub-forum if it exists simply to gather all threads having to do with Christianity into one area. I am NOT okay with it if it becomes a Christians-only club.

Absolutely! I think wzippler has explained it very well. I think that just the heading of the forum needs to be rethought. And by making the Nicene Creed the standard, I get to join in the fun. See, Catholics are Christians.

Leather? I see a Christians-Only Chat Room Club using something more like the Members Only Jacket:
