Why Did God Create Evil?
I wanted to throw this out there before I went to bed. I'll check on the responses when I wake up this afternoon.
Why did God create Evil? And, no I am not talking about in humans. I am talking about the fact that God must have clearly created evil in heaven. For, if such an all-knowing, omnipotent being created Lucifer as well, than he must have surely known that Lucifer would in fact turn out the way that he did. So, if God created Lucifer than he must have created Evil knowing this well in advance, right? Kind of in the same sense that he knew Adam and Eve would take the plunge as well. So, I ask, if God is so loving and caring, why did he create evil in the first place?

Are you sure that He did? Maybe the Evil and Satan was another one of those myths created to keep the early people of the earth in line.

I don't think that we can have free will without being given different options.

If evil is defined as deviation from the will of God, then evil would exist conceptually from the time that God willed anything. However, the only being with knowledge of good and evil at that point would be God--which actually ties into the whole "ye shall be as gods, knowing good from evil".

Tell ya what GCSTroop, you let us know when you believe in God and then we'll tackle these other questions.
I mean, you don't really believe there is a God, right?

Good point Alpha, why should we try to explain this to someone who doesn't even believe there is a God?

Even those that have little or no faith in a Supreme Being understand the difference between Good and Evil.
They even understand that doing unto others is a good thing to do. It's practical to watch out for one's neighbor, because at sometime, you may need his help.
They understand, "thou shalt not steal" not because it's in the bible, but because they also understand the value of letting people having things they can call their own.
Atheists can figure out a lot of things without scripture to guide them. Believe it or not, they can even figure out the difference between Bad and Good.

Padgett, I'm having a hard time figuring out what you are saying in various threads this morning.
While it's true that "Atheists can figure out a lot of things without scripture to guide them", Atheists, as a rule, usually don't believe in God. Now if I'm wrong, and GCSTroop is one of those God-believing atheists, then I am sure he'll correct me. But if I'm right then there's an atheist asking a "Why did God do something" question. If the atheist doesn't believe in God, then there's no way to answer the question.

Yes, he did.
Isaiah 45:7
"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things."
