Well for us newbies, I guess we'll never know your answer to this, if there is one.
kaykay spoke well of this subject. Because of the different beliefs on this site, it is easy for some to get a little bent out of shape and I would rather let the Bible speak for itself rather than to engage someone in debate that can get out of hand. Not that it isn't an interesting subject to discuss but I guess I'm not much into debating today. Maybe tomorrow.....or the next day.

our answer to that is found in our example who is Jesus.{I will be as short as I can}

when Jesus died his body ws laid in the grave, and that was the natural part of him. this is the same for us.

His soul and spirit which are not natural but spiritual and can't cease to be, therefore his soul was appointed to hell. not because he was a sinner but because he was paying the price for those of us who wanted salvation as to live forever in heaven and not hell. he went and paid the price of hell for us so death could not have those who choose Christ. this was to defeat the devil.

****Acts 2:31 - he seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ that his soul was not left in hell neither his flesh did see corruption.

while he was in hell he preached to those there giving them a chance to choose eternal life and escape hell. there were many who had not lived on earth when Jesus was born, so they had not heard the gospel. [remember when you die and cross over into eternity you are forever what you were when you died, and Jesus preached and taught the gospel, and when he slipped into eternity he continued on as he was even there in hell.] hell is not the lake of fire. hell is where all lost souls [those without salvation when they died go] the lake of fire is the torment they go on to after they have been before the JUDGEMENT SEAT OF GOD. the lake of fire is the last stop for sinners. anyways back to Jesus in hell sharing the gospel. those who accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ were then set free from death and the grave and when Jesus arose these others did as well. remember Jesus first went down and then came up setting those captive of the free.

Eph 4:8-9 - wherefore he saith when he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto me. now that he ascended first into the lower parts of the earth.....

Philippians 2:7 - but made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men....

Heb 2:14 - forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, HE ALSO himself likewise took part of the same, that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death and that is the devil.....

Matt. 27:51-54 - and behold the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent and the graves were opened and many bodies of the saints which slept arose and came out of the graves after his resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared unto many.

Jesus spirit is Holy. yes, his Holy Spirit returned to the Father as his soul paid for our sins in hell, and his body laid in the tomb.

when Jesus was raised from the dead his Holy Spirit, came down from heaven, unified with his soul ascending up from hell, and like the sound of a rushing mighty wind filled the tomb where Jesus body was laid. Jesus soul was saved, he was filled with the Holy Ghost, and in the wholeness of his body he got up with all power in his hand.

this is seen as we study Pentacost. salvation is when we experience the death, burial, and ressurection of Christ. we also observe this same truth in when we demonstrate water baptism.

anyway when the believer dies there is no going to hell because Jesus paid it all. when we die, our body goes into the ground and return to the dust. our soul still knows and love the gospel and so this part of us is not asleep because the soul is not in need of sleep however there is a rest the soul recieves. this rest is from the cares of this earthly life and so worry is removed and depression and so on. our soul is in communion with the LORD, and other believers in grand fellowship, but not yet at the Supper of the Lamb. all saints shall attend this all together. our spirit is in perfect oneness with the LORD, we know him, and we are like him for we shall see him as he is then.

now if we die before the return of Jesus then we he returns we will return with him and our bodies shall also rise putting on immortality so that it is suited for eternity and decay no more.

have I said too much? have I confused you? heaven's, I surely hope not. somtimes I can say too much. forgive me if I have confused you more.

Hi Nikk, there are no commas in the original manuscripts so some believe that the translation is to have the comma after the word today. This would give a different read.
God bless.

For those who believe in Christ, death is only a prelude to eternal life with God. We will continue to live. I do not believe we go straight to the grave.
I read the scripture in Corinthians that you suggested but you suggested only a verse and not the whole section that is basically pointing out that life in heaven is better than life on earth. I therefore urge you to read from 2 Corinthains 5:5-11 and it shows nothing that when you die you go straight to heaven.

Also the verse you refer to in Revelations does not suggest that those are the people who have died and when to heaven are now angels. For we see where when Adam and were created there where many angels before as even the devil was an angel and was cast out of heaven.

It as been my belief and what i was taught through the scriptures, that you don't die and go straight to heaven for if that was the case why would there be a need for judgement when you are already in heaven or hell? Also Christ told us that he's gone to prepare a place for us and on the last day he will return for GOD's people.

I am willing to be wrong if you can show me the right way in the scriptures!!!!!!!

Hi Tash,
Since ILNC is not on the board right now I'll try to answer your questions. Consider Jesus' parable of Lazarus and the rich man. When Lazarus died, he was carried by angels straight to Abraham's bosom. The rich man died and went immediately to hell. The scriptures are found in Luke 16:19-31.

The final white throne judgment is for the un-Godly who are alive or already dead and are already in Hades waiting for judgment. This is a judgment deciding eternal destination. Christians will go directly to heaven and be judged according to their works and given their respective treasures they have stored up in heaven. The Bible is not clear on the judging process, so we can only speculate about that.

But the story of Lazarus and the rich man alone tells us that we go to one of two places immediately. There is no slumber. If you believe in the rapture.....the bodies of the righteous that are in the ground or spread about the earth will be "caught up" out of their resting places and will ascend into the heavens to meet with their own heavenly spirits to become the glorified bodies that the Bible speaks of. That's how we will be able to recognize one another.

I can't prove any of the above, but that's how I interpret the scriptures. I always wondered how it all connected, and these are the answers that I have discerned through the Holy Spirit, my own study and others such as pastors, doctors, theologians and evangelicals. None completely agree on all of it, but most who believe in the rapture have similar understandings of scriptures and prophecy.

What I interpret from the Bible is that the soul goes back to Abraham's bosom and the body goes to the grave thereby returning to dust. The Bible says the dead know nothing. The remembrance of them is no more. The word rapture is not anywhere in the Bible, however, it does say that the elect will meet up in the air with Christ. I don't believe anyone will go to heaven, because Christ will set up his kingdom here on earth. I do not believe that you go to heaven or hell when you die, if that were the case then why the need for a Judgment Day at all? I do not believe in everlasting eternal hell fire. Not to say that you will not burn for a small season but will eventually burn up and be no more. And to me that would be hell knowing that I would never be anymore. A God of love would not allow people to burn eternally as humans did not ask to be put in here in the first place and that is why he made man mortal rather than immortal. God wanted to give life to all but gave them free will and a choice between good and evil. Just my opinions from studying the Bible.

Thank you DOTL, I agree with what you posted. I also believe that the armies of Heaven coming with Jesus In Reve 19:14 are us, the Christians. Absent from the body, present with the Lord.
