our answer to that is found in our example who is Jesus.{I will be as short as I can}
when Jesus died his body ws laid in the grave, and that was the natural part of him. this is the same for us.
His soul and spirit which are not natural but spiritual and can't cease to be, therefore his soul was appointed to hell.
not because he was a sinner but because he was paying the price for those of us who wanted salvation as to live forever in heaven and not hell. he went and paid the price of hell for us so death could not have those who choose Christ. this was to defeat the devil.
****Acts 2:31 - he seeing this before spake of the resurrection of
Christ that his soul was not left in hell neither his flesh did see corruption.
while he was in hell he preached to those there giving them a chance to choose eternal life and escape hell. there were many who had not lived on earth when Jesus was born, so they had not heard the gospel. [remember when you die and cross over into eternity you are forever what you were when you died, and Jesus preached and taught the gospel, and when he slipped into eternity he continued on as he was even there in hell.]
hell is not the lake of fire. hell is where all lost souls [those without salvation when they died go] the lake of fire is the torment they go on to after they have been before the JUDGEMENT SEAT OF GOD. the lake of fire is the last stop for sinners. anyways back to Jesus in hell sharing the gospel. those who accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ were then set free from death and the grave and when Jesus arose these others did as well. remember Jesus first went down and then came up setting those captive of the free.
Eph 4:8-9 - wherefore he saith when he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto me. now that he ascended first into the lower parts of the earth.....
Philippians 2:7 - but made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form of a servant and was
made in the likeness of men....
Heb 2:14 - forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, HE ALSO himself
likewise took part of the same, that through death he might destroy
him that had the power of death and
that is the devil.....
Matt. 27:51-54 - and behold the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent and the graves were opened
and many bodies of the saints which slept arose and came out of the graves after his resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared unto many.
Jesus spirit is Holy. yes, his
Holy Spirit returned to the Father as his soul paid for our sins in hell, and his body laid in the tomb.
when Jesus was raised from the dead his Holy Spirit, came down from heaven, unified with his soul ascending up from hell, and like the sound of a rushing mighty wind filled the tomb where Jesus body was laid. Jesus soul was saved, he was filled with the Holy Ghost, and in the wholeness of his body he got up with all power in his hand.
this is seen as we study Pentacost. salvation is when we experience the death, burial, and ressurection of Christ. we also observe this same truth in when we demonstrate water baptism.
anyway when the believer dies there is no going to hell because Jesus paid it all. when we die, our body goes into the ground and return to the dust. our soul still knows and love the gospel and so this part of us is not asleep because the soul is not in need of sleep however there is a rest the soul recieves. this rest is from the cares of this earthly life and so worry is removed and depression and so on. our soul is in communion with the LORD, and other believers in grand fellowship, but not yet at the Supper of the Lamb. all saints shall attend this all together. our spirit is in perfect oneness with the LORD, we know him, and we are like him for we shall see him as he is then.
now if we die before the return of Jesus then we he returns we will return with him and our bodies shall also rise putting on immortality so that it is suited for eternity and decay no more.
have I said too much? have I confused you? heaven's, I surely hope not. somtimes I can say too much. forgive me if I have confused you more.
