And for many it is easier to deny then to open their minds up or their hearts.

The trouble is too, that people have such a bunch of strongly-held beliefs, that to accept something as fundemental as UFO existence would blow their world apart.
They would probably be left with a whole lot of thinking and more questioning and people just dont want to bother. Particularly when they are getting older and they think they have it all figured out. They have placed their money on the religion 'horse' and do not want to change horses mid-stream.
What would happen if you suddenly found out that there was no 'heaven' but it was all a bunch of made-up stuff to keep the masses in order, the money rolling in, and the men in charge of the women.
Religions would have to quickly come up with a new set of rules, regulations, explanations, and answers to common questions. They have spent centuries refining these to be just right and to dissuade questioners from delving or thinking too deeply - then the sh hits the fan and everything is back to square one again.
No, I think it is easier to keep the status quo.
Just my interpretation of what would happen, of course. (I know the religions like to think they have a 'plan B' but it remains to be seen just how good a plan it is.)
