More Religious Trivia-What Is Your Favorite Horror Movie Based On A Religious Theme? (demon, origin)

There's one classic horror movie, The Exorcist, that I consider to be my all time favorite. Even though it came out in 1973 the special effects were great even by today's standards and I remember walking out of the movie theatre feeling a little stunned. Fainters and pukers from all around the world could attest to the fact that this movie built up a level of intensity and suspense that left you on the edge of your seat. It was far ahead of it's time and is a classic. So what are your favorites?

How in the world do you think up these questions I don't really care for those type movies..I really love the psychological thriller stuff and the "chick flicks" but can't think of my favorites of those either..I did see The Exorcist after I read the book..It was just plain garbage and ridiculous, but some of the scenes were quite memorable Spinning heads and green vomit...eeww

Seeing The Exorcist after reading the book just made the movie seem silly. The book was a good read on a long road trip.

To answer your question, my favorite would be The Omen, hands down.

I agree that the Stand was definitely Stephen King at his best..I have read the book and watched the movie countless times. "The Shining" was another great movie and read. I didn't care much for "It" or "Pet Cemetary" though as a movie.

I also read the book and saw the movie The Exorcist and I still say it was a classic movie. I do agree that The Omen was also a classic and I'd place it very high on the list. Did you happen to see the new version of the original The Omen? It was just like the first and the storyline was identical so it makes me wonder why they even did it although it was pretty good. The problem with so many successful movies is that they have a part 2 and a part 3. The sequels to The Exorcist were horrible although the first sequel to The Omen was actually pretty good. That's the problem with Hollywood, if something is a success they try to capitalize on it by making sequels and they're usually not as good as the original. Of course the Godfather sequels were great but I don't want to drift off topic.

When I read the title of this thread, The Omen (the original) popped into my head right away. Great movie! Creeped me out big time...

I really enjoyed the Omen as well. I always felt bad for Damien. Everyone was out to get him and all he was trying to do was take over the world... It was a little heart wrenching.

However, there was a movie with Denzel Washington a few years ago called Fallen that I really enjoyed. I guess it could be considered semi-religious. It kind of reminded me of a book I read by C.S. Lewis a long time ago.

I haven't seen the remake of The Omen but I probably will eventually. Most sequels leave me disappointed but The Omen trilogy was the exception. Loved all three.

omg. THE Exorcist hands down. see i loove horror movies. that film hold the distinction of making me STOP watching horror movies EVER! it gave me nightmares... linda blair's fugly face and most especially the voice that is not hers just... totally nightmarish.. add the 360 degree head turn.. and im frightened to death. anything that deals with demon possesion creeps me out. the voice change always gets me.

even EVIL dead freaks me out! and was dumbfounded to know that it supposed to be a comedy.

i am ONLY now watching scary movies again... but i wont watch exorcist EVER again... I was tempted to rewatch when they re release for 25th aniv or something but i dont wanna deal with restless nights and cant sleep coz of nightmares.

i watch omen but i forgot the story scenes already.. so i guess i was not as impressed as in the exorcist.
