Mormons and politics, a benign post
Since mormons seem to be well represented in the forums, I have a question for you.
Mormons have been one of the most loyal voting blocs in the country, vigilantly supporting republican candidates. After the primary season, and McCain's choice of Palin over Romney must have left a bitter taste in your mouth.
Now I can understand your moral views on abortion, gay marriage, etc., and I can see how that would put you in line with republicans generally. But, this party has the same mentality that disallowed mormons from practicing polygymy. The same party that reationalized that mormon votes are good enough to elect republicans, but not good enough to put a mormon on the presidential ticket. Thanks for the votes, now you're on your own.
So my question is, don't any of you feel frustrated with the party that happily accepts your votes, but resists supporting your interests?

I think I used the past tense.

Sorry I wasn't referring to you jest.
No party is perfect but I think that the republican party best represents mormon values.

Should Jews feel that way because the Democratic party didn't nominate Joe Lieberman?
I think your rationale is a bit flawed.
If four men of four different faiths were running it wouldn't be telling 3 of them that their faith isn't good enough to be 'the man'.
It'd just be saying only one (hopefully the best) candidate can be selected.
Let's not turn every decision people make into pity parties against any given faith.

I think you missed my point. Jews should feel offended if Joe Lieberman was not given the nomination because of his Jewish beliefs. Mitt Romney was passed over because the evangelicals in the party were uncomfortable with his mormonist beliefs.

Right
And I'm sure that there are Jews that feel exactly the same way about Lieberman.

Except that Lieberman did get the nomination, Romney did not.

Not in 2004, when antisemitism was thriving, even peaking. His Jewish heritage kept him from the office he so desired.

You seem to be confused. Joe Lieberman was given the VP nomination of his party. Romney was a legitimate, strong candidate, yet he was passed over because of his religion. There is NO comparison between the two. If you have some point to make about Lieberman/Romney, please do so.
My question is, why do mormons continue to support a party that clearly does not reciprocate.
