Yeah, I'd sooner marry another woman than share a man too.

Thanks for explaining your motivation for proposing such a strange hypothetical and asking for a response.
Our early church history is fascinating. What other church has millions of members who bear living testimonies that their founders were visited in broad daylight over a period of months and years by no less than God the Father and the resurrected Jesus Christ, Moses, Elijah, Peter, James and John etc.?
The ushering in of the Dispensation of the Fulness of Times was a marvelous work and a wonder. Little wonder that sincere truth seekers get on their knees and ask God if it's true or not. Marvelous that He responds so readily!
"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." James 1: 5
http://scriptures.lds.org/en/james/1/3-6#3
God continues to move in mysterious ways His wonders to perform.
"Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid." Isaiah 29: 15
http://scriptures.lds.org/en/isa/29/14#14
"Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you." Habbakuk 1: 5
http://scriptures.lds.org/en/hab/1/5#5
I recommend to all that they have a good serious look at the claims made by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one of the fastest growing churches in the world today. I know those claims to be true because God Himself has revealed that to me by the marvelous workings of His Holy Spirit. You too could have that experience and that testimony. But it must come from studying with an open mind, sincere honest prayer, and a willingness to obey God when He responds to you.

I wish you and your "scientific community" the very best with your progress towards knowing more and more about God's creations. Many scientists within that community also happen to be Latter-day Saints. There is not that big black and white division between the two communities that you like to pridefully pretend there is. Latter-day Saints believe that there is truth to be found in many places. Some of that could even come from "the scientific community."
|
|
I never claimed that there aren't even a few crackpots among the scientific community. Not to mention the fact that some scientists may well lose funding if they were to express their views. It is for this reason that most try to stay clear of the religious debate.
However, it is telling that an overwhelming majority of the fellows of the National Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society in Britain are atheists.
P.S. I realize this discussion has probably taken the thread off-topic. My apologies. While I feel that we have probably come to an impasse in this
particular discussion, if you have further questions, feel free to start a new thread. Now back to polygamy! LOL

Here are just a very few of the benefits that come with membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:
- Once you have gained that vital living testimony from God that it's true, you may for the rest of your life feel content and satisfied with your religious affiliation. When God Himself tells you by His Holy Spirit that His church has been restored and is on the earth, what could another church offer that would be better, regardless of how much of the truth other churches contain?
- You will be secure in knowing that you were baptized by one having authority from God. Every Melchizedek Priesthood holder in the LDS Church can trace his priesthood authority back to Jesus Christ through Peter, James, and John who appeared to early Church founders, placed their hands on the heads of the founders, and conferred upon them the Priesthood of God.
- We take our children to church with us! You and your family will be able to meet often to socialize and learn more about the fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in age-appropriate classes. Children enjoy Primary classes and activities. Young men get the Aaronic Priesthood and participate in learning, service, and activities that build strong moral values and responsible citizens. Young women become active in similar wholesome activities, many shared with the young men. After high school or a year of college worthy young men have an opportunity to selflessly serve missions (sometimes in locations where they learn a foreign language and develop leadership skills.) Women are members of "Relief Society" one of the largest organizations of women in the world. Women learn valuable skills, have fun together, and discover the joy of serving others. Men get the Melchizedek Priesthood and opportunities to serve in leadership positions such as priesthood quorum presidents, bishops, stake presidents, etc. In fact everyone usually gets an appropriate "calling" (a volunteer service oriented job) if they are willing to serve.
- You will learn from a living Prophet and anointed Apostles the same way members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Former-day Saints did, but even much more so because of modern means of communication. You may even get to meet and shake hands with an Apostle of the Lord, a special witness of Jesus Christ.
- You may have the opportunity to attend a temple, a House of the Lord, and there at a sacred altar kneel and accept the blessings of eternity upon you, the fulness of the Gospel, to be sealed to your spouse and children in a bond that only a lack of faithfulness or free choices could ever break. The apostolic sealing power is on this earth once more.
- You will feel the love, fellowship, and JOY that comes to good people associating closely with one another.
- You will have a temporal safety net: family, friends, fellow members, bishops, a wonderful welfare program for the needy, one of the largest and most effective humanitarian organizations in the world, plans in place for the prophesied times of tribulation now at our doorstep.
- As you travel the world you will seldom be more than a few miles from a safe haven, an LDS meetinghouse or temple, informed missionaries with Church contacts and assets, or a home where you can knock on the door, identify yourself as a fellow Latter-day Saint, and probably be instantly welcomed in and given assistance if you are distressed.
There are many many more blessings (both temporal and spiritual) attached to being a faithful member of the worldwide 13,000,000 member Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hundreds of thousands of new members are discovering that each year...
I recommend to everyone who is not yet a member that they have a serious look at the claims made by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one of the fastest growing churches in the world today, and decide for themselves if it's for them. I know those claims to be true because God Himself has revealed that to me by the marvelous workings of His Holy Spirit. You too could have that experience and that testimony. But it must come from studying with an open mind, sincere honest prayer, and a willingness to obey God when He responds to you.

With all due respect I don't want your testimony or experience. I have my own relationship with who I call God, and am very happy with it.

You may notice that I wasn't replying to one of your posts. I see my role in this thread as one of several active Latter-day Saint board members who teach interested readers the truth about Mormons.
I'm happy for you that you have personally found God. You are certainly ahead of those who keep their eyes shut to the spiritual part of their being and try hard to convince others that He doesn't even exist!

be careful with that last statement though, j; it could easily sound like a sweeping generalization. i know quite a few atheists that have been very open and have done quite a bit of searching. just because they haven't found the same thing that we have, doesn't mean that they haven't sincerely looked. in my belief, some of them will even eventually accept the truth when they find it; but again, that is my own belief.
aaron out.

I always appreciate sound advice, thank-you. I suppose those seeking atheists of your acquaintance would not fall among "those who keep their eyes shut."
The strange thing is that some people apparently try hard to find God with manufactured tools when all along they had the capacity to find Him with the spiritual tools He created and placed inside each of us.
Reading and pondering the scriptures and humble sincere prayer might work wonders compared to trying to measure God with the material tools of science.

I'm curious to know your source for that information. I often thought that most famous scientists attributed much to God, discovering Him in their search to understand things yet unexplained by science.
